Tendy & Amita Get Married
August 5, 2010
This was only the third Indian wedding I had ever photographed. And this one was especially unique as it brought together Indian and Chinese cultures. For those who have not been to a Hindu wedding, they are packed with culture, tradition and so much celebration and color. The party (Sangeet) started on Saturday at BoMA. Levi of Ely Brothers Photography was there as my second shooter. As was evident in the images he took, there was a lot of dancing and celebrating going on.
Sunday was the ceremony, which began with the Baraat. Tendi, in line with tradition, arrived for the ceremony on a white horse. He came right down Third Street, downtown! It was a traffic stopper for sure.
As the day went on, me more watching each event in wonder than merely documenting them, I took many great pictures. We shot at the State House, the alleys along Gay Street as well as all over the Renaissance hotel. And the night ended with one of the most lively dance parties I have ever attended. Our culture could gain much by adopting some of these traditions.
